7 Tips for a Successful Spring Makeover for Bedrooms
There's no fresher time of year than spring. As soon as March rolls around, we're ready to throw open our windows, let in the light and tell Old Man Winter to start packing.
Now that we're a few weeks into the season, has your home caught up? Or, are you still walking around Valentine's decorations, wondering where to begin?
The easiest and most fun place to start is your sleeping space, of course!
Today, we're sharing a quick guide on how to throw a spring makeover for bedrooms that will leave you feeling invigorated and renewed.
Read on for seven tips to try today!
1. Pack Up the Heavy Throws
Before you add anything new, go ahead and pack up anything that doesn't belong.
This includes your heavy comforters, flannel throws, and chunky, cable-knit blankets. Wash, fold and store them in your closet or attic until the temperatures dip again.
While you're tidying up, resist the urge to stow away every single blanket. You'll need a few lightweight ones for those cool summer nights! Keep those out and stash them in a nearby storage ottoman for quick retrieval.
2. Lighten Up Your Color Palette
You don't have to completely overhaul your space to welcome in spring. Yet, it does help to bring in a few happy, bright colors to lighten the place up a bit!
Think of the shades that you most associate with this season, and look for ways to introduce them subtly. A few of our go-to picks include:
- Lavender
- Pastel pink
- Robin's egg blue
- Buttercup yellow
Even light gray can work as a springy neutral when paired with these classic tones!
With your spring color palette in mind, look for accessories you can add that feature those hues. Think a lavender throw blanket across the foot of your bed, along with some light yellow throw pillows!
3. Switch Out Your Wardrobe
It's hard to make your bedroom feel like spring when you're still reaching around the polyester sweaters to get to your T-shirts.
If you have a big enough closet to hold your entire wardrobe, make sure your warm-weather essentials are front and center. If you rotate yours with the season, take the time to pack up your winter gear and bring in your spring/summer clothes.
Goodbye, snow boots and heavy denim! Hello, sandals and sundresses!
4. Add the Scent of Spring
Nothing says spring quite like the gentle aroma of daffodils, or the smell of fresh laundry on the clothesline.
Even if the weather outside your window hasn't quite caught up yet, you can still evoke a sunny feeling in your bedroom by spritzing a seasonal linen spray! While there are plenty on the market, it's fun and easy to make one yourself.
Simply mix four parts water with one part witch hazel. Then, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Some of our seasonal must-haves include:
- Geranium
- Roman Chamomile
- Lemon
- Tangerine
- Rose
- Grapefruit
- Cedarwood
Pour the solution into a spray bottle using a funnel and keep it in your nightstand. Before bed, spray it on your pillows and turn on the fan or a wind-down like no other!
5. Change Out Your Bedding
You've removed the weighted blankets for now, but what about your sheets, comforter, and pillowcases?
When spring rolls around, it's a great time to invest in new, breathable bedding.
Start with our Natural Cotton Comforter. Filled with soft cotton, it's lightweight and ultra-comfortable, making it ideal for hot sleepers who toss and turn when the seasons change.
Beneath it, slide on our Luxury Linen Sheet Set. Featuring a vegan fiber that's naturally hypoallergenic and 30% more durable than cotton, these sheets offer the ultimate in airy breathability.
Finally, top the whole look with a new, cool-to-the-touch Cool Pillow that regulates your temperature while you sleep! Adjustable to your preference, our pillow features phase-change fabric technology that keeps you comfortable all night long.
6. Swap Your Art
Scenes of winter wonderlands might be cozy, but they definitely don't add to your springtime vibes.
Channel a happy, laidback mood by packing those up and replacing them with bright botanicals, coastal scenes, and anything else that screams warmth!
Got a framed picture of your family at the beach last year? This is a great time to bring it out and display it on your dresser. You can also visit local thrift stores and secondhand shops to find floral prints and photographs on a dime.
While you're at it, don't forget about living art!
This is a perfect time to add a few fresh buds to a vase of water and leave it out for everyone to see. Head outside and take inspiration from nature, gathering grasses, limbs, and any bloom you can snip.
7. Add a Bright Rug
You've deep-cleaned your home in preparation for the season, and your carpet is featuring those gloriously fresh vacuum lines.
Adding a new rug is a great way to keep your floors protected and add a little color at the same time! Rather than shopping for an expensive, oversized one to fill the entire room, keep it small and sweet.
Look for areas where a short runner or 2x3 square could make a major impact. This might be the foot of your bed, in front of a window, or by a seating area. Find a pretty print or happy-colored solid and you'll smile every time you pass over it.
