What Are the Benefits of Using Silk Comforters?

What Are the Benefits of Using Silk Comforters?

The invention of silk is not known for certain and many legends have long obfuscated the truth, but many believe that this material was invented during the 3rd millennium BCE. Ever since then, people have loved the soft feel that silk has to offer. Silk comforters are especially popular for several reasons, likely because silk as a general fabric is full of benefits.

But what kind of benefits can you expect to experience from a silk comforter set? How can you know if a silk comforter is really the right option for you? Keep reading and learn all about the many benefits that silk comforter sets have to offer.

Silk Is Hypoallergenic

One of the biggest benefits of a silk bed comforter is that it is hypoallergenic. Silk is an entirely natural material made from silkworms. Whether you have allergies or asthma, the hypoallergenic nature of silk can make it far easier for you to fall asleep and stay asleep.

This is especially true during allergy season when the air is filled with dust and pollen. Silk is unique because it has the ability to repel dust, insects, and other debris that exacerbates allergies. How can silk do this, you might ask?

Silk can repel moisture. Since most allergy-causing debris loves to attach itself to moisture, you can imagine that it would be quite a challenge for that to happen considering that silk is a material that is relatively devoid of moisture. This is not to mention that silk should not have any smell that might irritate your allergies.

This is often the case for synthetic comforters.

The Details

Many synthetic comforters claim to be hypoallergenic. While they might be made of materials that can reduce allergy symptoms, the smell of the synthetic threads themselves can often bring a lot of misery to those who have bad allergy problems.

This is especially true for those who have very sensitive allergies. But again, you won't have to worry about that problem when you invest in silk comforter sets. This is not to mention that silk can keep certain insects at bay.

For example, dust mites and bed bugs love moist environments. In comforters made out of other non-silk materials, these insects can easily make themselves at home and start to reproduce. But because of silk's moisture-wicking construction, you won't ever have to worry about these creepy crawlies on your comforter.

Silk Keeps You From Overheating

Overheating at night is a big problem for many people. If you tend to overheat during the night, you'll find that no amount of tossing or turning will cool you down. As a result, your restful night of sleep will be interrupted and you'll be tired the following morning.

This, of course, is not a great way to start your day. Many synthetic comforters are the cause of overheating. While these comforters certainly do a good job at keeping you warm during the night, they often perform this job too well and cause you to overheat.

This happens especially when you start to sweat while you're asleep. The moisture of your sweat will get caught in the synthetic fabric of the sheets and comforter. Since synthetic fabric is not known to wick away moisture, the moisture instead gets trapped in the fabric and heats up the sheets, making the heat unbearable in the middle of the night.

What You Need to Know

Silk comforters, on the other hand, do a very good job at not only keeping you cool but regulating your temperature throughout the night. This is because, again, silk has the very convenient ability of being able to wick away moisture. So, as you sweat throughout the night, the silk will wick moisture not only from your body but also from the silk itself.

Instead of the moisture soaking into the fabric, it will only stay on the very surface and won't cause any problems. As you can imagine, this is particularly useful for those who experience hot flashes during the night or for those who tend to sweat a lot while sleeping.

Silk comforters are also very streamlined compared to synthetic comforters. So, you won't have to wrestle with huge, heavy comforters throughout the night either.

Silk Is Soft

The softness of silk may be obvious, but it is one of the biggest benefits that silk has to offer. Many synthetic comforters are rough and scratchy on the skin. This can be uncomfortable to sleep with night after night, especially for those who have sensitive skin.

The last thing you want is for your comforter to give you a rash or wake you up in the middle of the night because of its itchiness. Silk comforters, on the other hand, are unbeatable when it comes to smoothness. Silk, in a way, feels like a gentle stream of water against your skin.

Because it is so smooth, it certainly won't make you itch in the middle of the night. It won't irritate your skin either, even if you have very sensitive skin. And because silk is so gentle on the skin, it can reduce frizzy hair in the morning and wrinkles.

What else could you ask for from a comforter?
