8 Tips for Creating the Coziest Winter Bedroom

8 Tips for Creating the Coziest Winter Bedroom

The temperatures are dipping and winter will be here before we know it! Is your bedroom ready?

When the seasons change, it's time to stow away the lightweight linens and invest in heavy-duty bedding that will keep you warm all the way until the spring.

Today, we're sharing eight of our top tips for creating the ideal winter bedroom of your dreams!

1. Cozy Up Your Decor

Are you still decorating your room with vibrant florals and a sunny comforter? If so, consider swapping them out for cozy neutrals and deeply-hued solids that can transform the environment into a quiet, peaceful oasis.

This can be as simple as adding a few new prints around your bed or bringing in some autumn-colored throw pillows for your accent chair.

If you're shopping for new bedroom furniture, consider rich, nature-inspired pieces that ground your space and add plenty of warmth and depth. For instance, our Rustic Nightstand is both beautiful and functional, making it the perfect go-anywhere item. Choose from a raw finish, whitewash finish, or greywash finish depending on your preference.

2. Invest in Luxurious Bedding

There's nothing like curling up in a warm, soft bed while the snow falls or the wind blows outside! This winter, make it a point to invest in bedding that can help you turn this dreamy scene into a reality.

We've got everything you need for a winter-ready bedroom in our luxury bedding collection.

Our Washable Wool Comforter is a year-round favorite that you'll especially appreciate when the chill sets in! To make your bed as plush as possible, we also suggest our comfy Organic Merino Wool Topper, which softens your mattress while keeping you cool, so you'll stay warm but never overheat.

3. Add Plenty of Blankets and Pillows

If there were ever a time to pile on the blankets and throw pillows, winter is it.

Instead of simply shopping at your local home decor store for seasonal varieties that you'll toss by March, consider buying gorgeous legacy pieces that you can enjoy for years to come.

Our Organic Cotton Luxury Pillow Shams will look right at home among the rest of your winter decor, and these soft and luxurious accessories will even carry you effortlessly into the warmer seasons. In addition to pillows, go ahead and add soft, chunky throws to your bedding, as well as quilts and other soft knits.

One look at your new, fluffed-up bed and you'll be ready for turn-down time!

4. Add Soft, Warm Lighting

If the only light in your bedroom is a glaringly bright overhead fluorescent bulb, taking the time to add in task lighting can instantly warm up the space!

Add lamps to your bedside tables, or sconces on either side of the bed. If you have a desk or a reading chair in your room, try adding a floor lamp in those spots. Then, keep the overhead can lights off and use lamps wherever possible to give your room a gentle, soft glow.

On nights that are especially chilly, you can even light a few candles around your bedroom or bathroom for an ultra-luxe glow. Just make sure to blow them out before you go to sleep!

5. Don't Forget Rugs

There's nothing like stepping onto cold wooden or tile floors on a brisk winter morning! If you don't already have a large area rug in your bedroom, the winter is a great time to add one.

As you shop, remember that your rug doesn't have to match the colors in your room precisely. A little contrast can make the space interesting and multi-dimensional! There are only two rules that really apply here: You should love the colors, pattern and design of the rug and it should feel soft underfoot.

Save the indoor/outdoor varieties for the front porch, and choose one that you'll love to walk on every day.

6. Diffuse Calming Essential Oils

How would you describe the smell of winter? Would your memory conjure up scents of pinewood, cedar, and peppermint? What about cinnamon, cloves and brown sugar?

No matter which aromas you associate with this cuddly, cozy season, you can find almost any of them in an essential oil form. Add a few drops to the diffuser in your bedroom, and you'll feel like you're right in the middle of a winter wonderland!

You can even add a small bowl of pinecones to your dresser and sprinkle them with a few drops of cinnamon oil. The festive scent will linger for weeks and add a little holiday charm to your room!

7. Clear the Clutter

It's easy to overdo it when decorating for the holidays. Just ask the homeowner with dozens of decorating bins in the attic!

In your quest to make your bedroom feel as winter-friendly as possible, it is possible to heap on too many accessories. If you find that your room begins to feel cluttered, consider what you can do without or stash away until next year.

A minimalist, tidy bedroom can feel incredibly cozy, mostly because it gives you permission to relax. When you're not stepping over piles of clutter to get to the bathroom or dodging work folders just to climb in bed, you're ready to enjoy the space as the personal retreat it was always meant to be.

8. Set Out Luxe Pajamas

The movie is cued up, and the popcorn is ready. The lights are down low and your bed is as plush as they come. It might be freezing outside, but your bedroom is warm and relaxed.

Now, all that's left is to slip into some ultra-soft, cozy pajamas! Our Unisex Bamboo Pajamas are the perfect pair, made for any time you want to cocoon yourself in stretchy, plush comfort. When the rest of your room is a luxurious vision, your nightwear should be, too!

Warm Up to Your Winter Bedroom

Transforming your room into the winter-friendly space of your dreams doesn't require a major overhaul. Instead, you only need to know which items to strategically incorporate to give it that plush, cozy atmosphere you crave.

These eight winter bedroom ideas are a great place to start! As you shop, feel free to check out our other collections, with products for your lifestyle, pets, kids, and more! As always, if you have any questions, we're always here to connect.
