Which Current Mattress Replaced My Old One?

Older mattress names do not always map to a current product one-for-one. This guide identifies direct successors, historical successors that are now discontinued, and the closest current options when construction has materially changed.

Compare the original mattress type, materials, firmness, and feel before choosing a replacement. A shared name or product lineage does not mean every layer, material, or specification stayed the same.

How to use this guide

Direct successors are the clearest name or product continuation. Closest current options solve a similar need but may use a different construction. Where no equivalent exists, the guide says so plainly.

Direct successor

Alexander Signature Hybrid

Closest current modelSparrow Signature Hybrid

Sparrow is the clearest continuation of Nest Bedding's longest-running hybrid line. The current mattress is a 14-inch pillow-top hybrid with Plush, Medium, and Firm feels, a zippered replaceable comfort layer, and pocketed coils. Older Alexander builds should not be assumed to share every current material or specification.

Closest current all-foam option

Alexander Signature Series

Closest current modelStarling Signature Contour

The original Alexander Signature was an all-foam, pillow-top design. The current Starling is a 12.5-inch all-foam mattress and the best current starting point for that category, but it is not a direct rename or identical build.

Direct successor

Natural Hybrid Latex / Hybrid Latex Natural

Closest current modelOwl Natural Latex Hybrid

Owl continues this natural-latex hybrid path with an organic cotton and wool cover, natural latex comfort layer, pocketed coils, three feel choices, and a zippered exchangeable comfort layer.

Closest current latex hybrid

Hybrid Latex

Closest current modelOwl Natural Latex Hybrid

Owl is the closest current option for shoppers who want latex comfort over pocketed coils. Historical Hybrid Latex specifications varied, so compare firmness and materials rather than assuming the current Owl is the same mattress.

Historical successor now discontinued

Love & Sleep

Later modelQuail Responsive Foam

Love & Sleep later became Quail, but Quail is now discontinued. There is no direct current replacement; shoppers should compare current options by all-foam feel, firmness, and support needs.

No direct replacement

Love Bed

Current starting pointsOwl or Starling

Love Bed combined latex foam with memory foam over a firm support base. Owl is the better starting point for latex responsiveness, while Starling is the current all-foam option; neither duplicates the original mixed-foam construction.

Direct successor

BKB / Big Kids Bed

Closest current modelPuffin Kids Bed

Puffin continues the BKB kids-mattress line as a 7-inch all-foam mattress with one supportive feel. It is the clearest current choice for shoppers replacing the original BKB.

Current category option

BKB Natural

Closest current kids modelPuffin Kids Bed

BKB Natural later became Lark, which is discontinued. Puffin is the current kids mattress, but its all-foam construction does not reproduce the older natural-material design.

Direct successor

FLIP / iFlip / Robin

Closest current modelRaven Flippable Hybrid

Raven continues the flippable lineage as a 12-inch, two-sided hybrid with a softer side and a firmer side. Robin became Raven in name on April 14, 2023.

Historical successor now discontinued

All Latex Natural

Later model and current optionFinch; then Owl

All Latex Natural later became Finch, which is discontinued. Owl is the closest current latex-oriented option, but it is a hybrid with pocketed coils rather than an all-latex mattress.

Historical organic successor

Organic Hybrid Latex / Organic Hybrid Latex by OMI

Later model and current optionDove; then Owl

Dove continued the certified-organic hybrid collaboration with OMI and is now discontinued. Owl is the current natural-latex hybrid starting point, but it should not be treated as the same certified-organic product.

Historical organic successor

All Latex Organic / All Latex Organic by OMI

Later modelPiper Organic Latex

Piper continued the certified-organic, all-latex collaboration with OMI and is now discontinued. There is no direct current all-latex organic replacement; Owl uses natural latex in a hybrid construction.

Historical successor now discontinued

Crib Mattress

Later modelStork Organic Crib Mattress

Stork continued the crib-mattress collaboration with OMI and is now discontinued. Nest Bedding does not currently list a direct replacement in the active mattress family.

Current related all-foam option

Starling / Contour

Closest current modelStarling Signature Contour

The Starling name returned in a newer 12.5-inch all-foam design. It is the current related option for all-foam shoppers, but its responsive foam construction should not be assumed to match every early Starling or Contour model.

Closest current all-foam option

Quail Responsive Foam

Current starting pointStarling Signature Contour

Quail is discontinued. Starling is the current all-foam starting point, but it uses a different foam design and is offered in a Medium feel, so it is not a one-for-one replacement for Quail's former firmness choices.

Closest current latex option

Finch Natural Latex

Closest current modelOwl Natural Latex Hybrid

Finch is discontinued. Owl offers natural latex, organic cotton, wool, and three feel choices, but it uses pocketed coils and is therefore a hybrid rather than an all-latex equivalent.

Current kids option

Lark Natural Kids Bed

Closest current kids modelPuffin Kids Bed

Lark is discontinued. Puffin is the current 7-inch kids mattress, but its all-foam construction is not a direct replacement for Lark's natural-material design.

Full Chronological Mattress Archive

This archive adds construction decisions, manufacturing context, and product relationships to the names and dates shown in the timeline.

2011: Founding and Early Bird-Name Roots

Nest Bedding was founded in 2011 with a natural, boutique sleep-shop identity. Early product naming included bird- and nature-inspired names such as Quail, Dove, and Starling.

Those names established a connection between the brand and the idea of building a comfortable, personal nest. That early identity later became the reason Nest Bedding returned to bird names across the modern mattress family.

2013: 100-Night Sleep Trial

In 2013, Nest Bedding launched a 100-night sleep trial on mattresses offered by the brand. This was the earlier trial period before the later move to a 365-night trial.

Customers researching older purchases should remember that trial terms may depend on the mattress model, purchase date, and policy in effect at the time.

2014: Love Bed, Honest Mattress, and Early Latex Lines

By 2014, the Nest Bedding catalog included Love Bed, Honest Mattress, and the Quail Latex Bed. The lineup was expanding across straightforward foam, mixed-foam, latex, and natural-material designs.

This period helped establish the construction categories that later products would refine: supportive all-foam beds, latex comfort, and mattresses designed around a clearly defined feel rather than a long list of nearly identical options.

2015: Graphite Bed, iFlip, Smarthouse, and Alexander Signature

The earliest Alexander Signature launched in 2015 as an all-foam, pillow-top mattress with Firm, Medium, and Plush options. The same period included the graphite-infused Graphite Bed, the flippable iFlip concept, and Smarthouse, an exclusive collaboration with Amy Smart and Carter Oosterhouse.

These products show Nest Bedding testing several distinct ideas at once: specialty materials, two-sided comfort, collaboration-led design, and a more developed family of Alexander mattresses.

2016: Alexander Signature Hybrid, Love & Sleep, Hybrid Latex, and BKB

By 2016, Alexander Signature Hybrid, Hybrid Latex, Love & Sleep, and BKB / Big Kids Bed were active or emerging parts of the lineup.

The Alexander Signature Hybrid became Nest Bedding's oldest and longest-running hybrid line before later becoming Sparrow. Love & Sleep later became Quail, Hybrid Latex developed into the Owl lineage, and BKB later became Puffin Kids Bed.

2017: Active X, Contour, and Q3 Latex Bed

Active X used an all-foam design positioned for athletes and hot sleepers. Contour used specialty foam layers beneath a cool, smooth top, while Q3 consolidated several earlier latex-mattress approaches into one design.

Together, these models show Nest Bedding narrowing broader material experiments into clearer choices based on cooling, foam feel, and latex support.

2018: Organic Latex Collaborations with OMI

Nest Bedding, in collaboration with OMI (Organic Mattress Incorporated), developed certified-organic hybrid and all-latex mattresses using certified organic cotton and latex selected under OMI's material guidelines. These products later connected to the Dove and Piper names.

The collaborations ended as certified-organic material costs increased and material shortages made consistent production more difficult. Historical certification references on this page reflect the partner guidelines and certifications valid and available during the period when the mattresses were made.

2019: Zipper Covers, Layer Inserts, and Easier Comfort Exchanges

Zipper-top construction was introduced to make mattress comfort layers easier to access and replace. A customer changing firmness could exchange the relevant layer instead of replacing the entire mattress.

This reduced material waste and avoided the cost and practical headache of disposing of a complete bed for a feel adjustment. The same construction choice later became central to the Lifetime Renewal Exchange.

2020: Returning to Bird Names and Building the Nest

On September 20, 2020, Nest Bedding began formal rename planning around a return to bird- and nature-inspired mattress names. The goal was to reconnect the product family with the brand's roots and make the idea of building your nest more visible across the lineup.

Sparrow, Owl, Puffin, Finch, Lark, Dove, Piper, and Stork gave the collection a more colorful and cohesive identity while making related products easier to recognize.

Important name changes from this period include:

  • Alexander Signature Hybrid to Sparrow
  • Natural Hybrid Latex to Owl
  • Love & Sleep to Quail
  • BKB to Puffin
  • BKB Natural to Lark
  • All Latex Natural to Finch
  • Organic Hybrid Latex to Dove
  • All Latex Organic to Piper
  • Crib Mattress to Stork

2021: 365-Night Trial and Lifetime Renewal Exchange

In October 2021, Nest Bedding moved from a 100-night sleep trial to a 365-night trial period.

Around the same modern product era, the Lifetime Renewal Exchange formalized the benefit of replaceable comfort layers. Eligible customers could adjust or renew the feel of certain mattresses without discarding the coil unit, cover, and remaining mattress materials.

This period connected product naming, customer comfort adjustments, longer trial expectations, and a more renewable approach to mattress ownership.

2022: Bird-Name Lineup Settles In

By 2022, the bird-name family was active across Sparrow, Owl, Quail, Puffin, Finch, Lark, and Robin. Product work continued around comfort-layer formulations and exchangeable-layer construction.

The lineup was becoming easier to understand by construction: foam hybrid, latex hybrid, all-foam, kids, all-latex, natural kids, and flippable hybrid options each had a clearer place in the family.

2023: Robin Becomes Raven and Starling Reappears

On April 14, 2023, Robin became Raven in name. The 12-inch, two-sided flippable hybrid lineage continued under Raven with a softer side and a firmer side.

Starling also returned in a new all-foam form. Its reappearance connected an early bird name to a modern responsive-foam design rather than recreating the original mattress construction.

2026: Current Lineup Focus and 8-Inch Coil Update

By 2026, Nest Bedding's active mattress family is focused around Sparrow, Owl, Starling, Puffin, and Raven. Quail, Lark, and Finch are discontinued and should be treated as historical rather than active models.

The move to an 8-inch coil was prompted by manufacturing advancements from Nest Bedding's US-based manufacturing partner, Diamond Mattress. The taller pocketed-coil system provides the stronger support Nest Bedding wanted for the current Sparrow and Owl hybrid construction.

Current shoppers should compare these active mattresses by construction and feel, not assume that a historical name means the materials remained unchanged.

Trial, Returns, Warranty, and Renewal History

Nest Bedding mattress policies and renewal programs have changed over time. This section gives historical context, but current policy pages should always be used for current terms.

100-Night Sleep Trial

Nest Bedding launched a 100-night sleep trial in 2013 on mattresses offered by the brand. This was the earlier trial period before the later move to a 365-night trial.

365-Night Trial

In October 2021, Nest Bedding moved from a 100-night trial to a 365-night trial period.

Lifetime Renewal Exchange

The Lifetime Renewal Exchange launched around the modern bird-name mattress era and is connected to replaceable comfort layers. The program was designed to help eligible customers renew the comfort feel of certain mattresses without replacing the entire mattress.

Current Policy Reminder

Current policy pages explain the terms that apply today. Historical trial, exchange, return, and warranty details may vary by purchase date and mattress model.
