A Lack of Sleep Can Make You Feel Like A Wimp
In a recent Huffington Post article, Dutch researchers subjected elite athletes to a test. They took a group of cyclists and had them cycle for a specific time period. The only difference is that they had them cycle once with a proper night rest and then another time with a lack of sleep. The results were eye opening.
"We conclude that subjective estimates of performance are not in line with actual performance for endurance exercise after sleep deprivation," the authors wrote. "In other words," Runner's World reported, "lack of sleep might make you a wimp."
When deprived of proper sleep, the cyclists THOUGHT they had cycled farther than they had than when they had proper sleep.
A very telling study, but it's not rocket science: The average person can feel the affects of not getting proper rest. What are some things you can do to get proper sleep?
- A supportive, comfortable mattress. One that sleeps cool, not made of plastics
- Breathable, soft and comfortable bedding. Sheets and blankets make a big difference in comfort and coolness
- A proper fitting pillow. Pillows can make or break a good night's sleep
- A sleep environment without stimulation. Nothing to wake the senses
